Electric
Utilities: The
Town of Hobgood owns and operates 18 miles of 7200/12470-volt electric
distribution line with 320 customers. Construction, maintenance, and tree
trimming are handled exclusively by the Town’s three Electric Dept employees
who are on call twenty four hours a day seven days a week for outages. A
member of Electric Cities since the early 1970’s the Town purchases
electricity through the Power Agency and resells to its customers. With
one Holan 805 material handling bucket truck, a six-wheel drive bucket truck
equipped with front winch, one four-wheel drive Telelect digger derrick, and a
smaller Telelect digger derrick there is little that Town employees can’t
access or repair in a timely manner. In addition the Town stocks replacement
transformers, sectionalizing equipment, poles, and other material needed for
maintenance, repair, and new construction. To
insure accuracy, a meter test and change out program is in place. Electric Dept.
employees are responsible for testing residential electric meters based on meter
age and or customer complaint. The Town of Hobgood maintains it’s own meter
test equipment and from time to time aids other local towns with meter problems.
A no cost home energy audit is available upon request for customers who are
concerned about high-energy bills. Water
Department: The Town of Hobgood maintains approximately15 miles of water distribution line with 300 water customers. Water is pumped from two wells, which is drawn from the Tuscaloosa Aquifer, treated and stored in the Towns two elevated water tanks. With 175,000 gallons of storage, ample water is on hand to provide for customer use as well as fire fighting efforts. Emergency generators provide standby power for our wells. In addition a state of the art water metering system augments our farm water installation and is available during the growing season for local farmers. Hobgood has the reputation for some of the best tasting water in the State. The Town furnishes residents as well as people in the surrounding country- side with water. |
