Russell Odom has been the Town Attorney since 2002, when he came to help the Town with the legal work associated with the development of the sewer system.  He is a 1970 graduate of the University of North Carolina, and a 1975 graduate of the UNC School of Law.  He retired in June, 1999 from Durham County after serving for over 27 years in various capacities, ten of which were as County Attorney.  He is a native of Columbus County, North Carolina, and served in the Navy from 1963 until 1966.

Russell and his wife, Vickie, live in Durham, have two sons, Bryan and Matthew, and three granddaughters.

Russell says " I can do this as good as The Town Administrator for half the money"

He says of his fondness for Hobgood:  "It's so much like the town I grew up near, Bolton, with the neighborliness and informality of the associations.  The town administration and other folks I've come to know there are so pleasant I often do work just for the enjoyment of helping them.  In spite of the fact that I live in Durham, Hobgood has come to be a part of me.  I am very interested in its success, and support the devoted efforts of its current leaders.  After twenty-seven years in Durham, I am amazed at the quality and value of the work town employees do.  Hobgood is administered much better than any other town its size, and far better than many larger ones.  The citizens are fortunate to have them working for the Town."
