The Sounds of Gold is an a
cappella ensemble of 35 select voices performing primarily the “popular
classics” of both sacred and secular choral literature.
The aim of the group is to perform at the highest level those choral
works that engage the listener and can withstand the test of time.
Founded by Jesse Shearin in 1995, the Sounds of Gold is based in Rocky
Mount, North Carolina. Recent
performance venues include historic Bruton Parish Church in Williamsburg, the
Church of Saint Francis of Assisi in New York City, Canterbury Cathedral, and
Christ Church in Dublin, Ireland.
Jesse Shearin has directed church choirs continuously since 1983 and has
been Music Director for Englewood United Methodist Church in Rocky Mount since
2000. He was Choral Director for the
Tar River Choral & Orchestral Society from 1993 until 2000.
In 1985 he founded the Scotland Neck Community Chorus, which
he directed for 12 years.
