Sanitation
Department: On
December 1st 2001, the Town of Hobgood purchased a used refuse truck.
This equipment addition allowed the Town to pick up its own household waste, a
service that had been provided by various other contractors in the past. This
endeavor will provide a projected savings in excess of $ 56.000 over 5 years
while providing improved service to its citizens. The Town was able to utilize existing employees and accomplish this with no additional labor cost. Curbside
pickup of household waste is once weekly on Wednesday morning. Street
Department: The Town of Hobgood street department is responsible for minor street repair as well as replacing defective culverts. The recent addition of an asphalt roller, with the planned construction of an asphalt paving box will give the added capability of resurfacing some of the more worn streets in Town. Street and gutter cleaning, which used to be accomplished with broom and shovel, is a task made infinitely easier by the addition of a recently acquired sweeper truck. The
weekly task of yard debris pickup also falls to the street department. Yard
debris is normally picked up twice a week, on Mondays and Fridays. The
summer brings with it the grass cutting season. Street department personnel and
equipment keep the many acres of grass to be cut in check. From string trimmers
to bush-hog, the combination of determination and excellent equipment keep the
ever-present grass problem under control. Sewer: Coming soon in 2005(Complete!)In August of 2002 the Town of Hobgood was awarded a joint $3.5 million grant from The Rural Center and The Department of Commerce to build a sewer collection system. The time line for bid advertisement was July 2003 with bid opening August 2003. The estimated construction time is twelve months. At this time contracts have been signed and construction is underway.
