My name is Sam Johnson.  I was born in Edgecombe County in 1939 and graduated from North Edgecombe High School in 1958.  I married my high school sweetheart, Mary Jo Simpson, in 1959.  I served two years in the U.S. Army and after leaving the Army, I started to work for Atlantic Coast Line Railroad.  I retired from CSXT Railroad after working 36 years.  We have lived in Hobgood for 39 years, and we have two children, Alan and Susan, and three grandchildren.
