The Hobgood Depot...Ties to the past.....

The Depot built in 1890 has been a focal point in Hobgood for the last century but during the last three decades neglect and abuse had rendered the Depot almost useless.  During the 80's the Depot was moved from its original location to a lot 500 yards north. Here it deteriorated, until the Hobgood Revitalization Committee decided it was worth saving.

In 2002 an ambitious project was undertaken to restore the Depot to its original condition. The Anthony family of Hobgood which owned the Depot generously offered to donate it to the Town.

Hobgood Revitalization Saving The Past Looking To The Future.

The Hobgood Revitalization Committee applied for and received a North Carolina Department of Transportation Enhancement Grant for the amount of $75506.00. Since the Hobgood Fire Department had been constructed on the original depot site, a new location was selected for the building adjacent to the park. The Depot was moved to its new site and Renovation is continuing with a completion date set for April 2005. The Depot will house the new radio station, a small library, transportation museum, restrooms, and a large general purpose room.
